Since 2008, the Republic of San Marino joined the GDDS, the General Data Dissemination System introduced by the International Monetary Fund in December 1997.
The purposes of the GDDS:
encourage Member States
create a framework for assessing the need to improved data and set priorities
guide Member States in the publication of economic, financial and socio-demographic statistics ensuring they are complete, timely, accessible and reliable.
The involvement in the GDDS is voluntary and member states must:
commit to using the GDDS as a framework for statistical
designate a coordinator
develop procedures (metadata) that describe the methods of production and dissemination of official statistics
provide a framework on measures in the short and long term to improve its system of production and dissemination of data
The GDDS is structured around four dimensions of the data: features, quality, accessibility and integrity. It must be stated for each item published coverage, priodicità and timeliness of publication.
Since January 2020, the Republic of San Marino has strengthened its commitment to the dissemination of data, implementing the existing system (GDDS) with the new procedures defined by the e-GDDS (Enhanced General Data Dissemination System).
The e-GDDS was established by the IMF’s Executive Board in May 2015 replacing the GDDS, which was established in 1997, to support improved data transparency, encourage statistical development, and help create synergies between data dissemination and surveillance.
